After many failures using screwdrivers, I was recently able to loosen the screw to remove a broken latch, loosen the screw from the latch on a parts van window (still installed), and reinstall the good latch using a screw driver bit and a pair of pliers as the "tool."

I did see a ratchet type screwdriver kit with lots of bits, etc. that had a flexible connection that would attach to the handle and hold screwdriver bits, but the price (about $27 at Target) and the fact that I already have all the parts but the flexible connector, prompted me to try one more time and I finally solved it as described above.

If the screw is in there then you should be able to get the bit in the hole and turn until it goes into the slot. Then tighten.

Good luck,

Sam
