The front cable and adjusting rod is one piece. It travels through a nylon guide that is also part of the cable. The nylon guide is wedged into a small metal bracket that is welded to the chassis above the fuel tank. I believe you will need to drop the tank to get the replacement guide properly into the bracket. Syncros do not have this difficulty as their fuel tank is in the rear making the guide easy to access. I don't doubt that someone may claim to have once succeeded in doing it with the 2wd tank still in place but I never could. I did get the old one out that way but putting the replacement in is another matter.
