Subject: homeless in bonner's ferry
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
My brother's daughter used to live in Libby so when my
sister and her husband (from Iowa) suggested a family
reunion I suggested Libby. My brother considers his
daughter homeless and I had not heard from her but
thought she was in a trailer somewhere moving around
every two weeks in the forest of Montana as required
by the forest service. I always thought that as long
as you had something larger than a motorized shopping
cart you fell beyond the boundaries of homeless. I
have always considered my vanagon my second home so a
trailer seemed more like a house than a shopping cart.
The clever little vagabond had figured out some
land use program so that she did not have to move
every two weeks. The area was near Troy in an area
where her cell phone no longer worked. I would share
this plan with you were it not for the fear that the
entire vanagon list might migrate north like a hoard
of gypsies.
She called me the night before our departure
indicating she had moved closer to Bonner's Ferry,
Idaho so the Libby trip had been moved north and
closer to the Canada oh Canada eh.
From San Francisco there is a bit of a shortcut to
Farragut just south of Bonner's Ferry that I
discovered by accident using the koa trip planner.
It involves cutting over to Klamath Falls from Weed.
This route puts you on the gorge further east. This
less well travel route is a very good highway and cuts
out about 120 miles. There are fewer mountains
passes and a cooler road(than I-5) that is perfect for
a smallish vanagon. You can reach Farragut in a cool
days drive from Klamath Falls. Each of the two
nights we stayed at Farragut (there and back)the
campground was posted "full" but seemed to have room
for one more vagabond vanagon as there is "alway room
for one more".
We arrived Bonner's Ferry the next morning and
spend several days relaxing in the calmness of the
Idaho panhandle with our relatives. We pushed pass
the Canadian border to make the family reunion our
first international one, taking in the numerous hot
springs and enjoying the pleasure of the very pleasant
Canadian people.
Yes Canada oh Canada we are blessed to have you as
neighbors. Many thanks, Gary
