I visited the area in '01, absolutely gorgeous! I came in from the north, visited the Soo Locks (quite nice). Wanted to take the ferry across Lk Michigan from Ludington... it wasn't going out due to heavy seas (I know, we call it a lake, but trust me). This caused me to hang around a full extra day, so I visited Ludington State Park... absolutely wonderful. Took a hike out to Big Sable lighthouse (about a mile-and-a-quarter from the closest parking), and climbed it (dunno what the hours are, but it was open that day). I never did get to take the ferry (high winds and waves persisted), so I drove south to Chicago... but it's a great area, and possibly the best delay I had on the whole trip.
