Jim,

Drop the spare tire and slide under the van, resting your head on the
spare tire tray.  You'll see an open-ended box which contains the stuff
below the shift lever.  Spray a bit of WD-40 around in there (this is
TEMPORARY - for test purposes only).

If the shifting improves, use some moly grease and coat any surfaces
that the shift linkage touches.
