Hi,

I've taken mine down in my '90 Carat before to change the expansion valve and O-rings when I converted to R-134. What a major PIA! The evaporator / fan assembly is only about 15 pounds or so, but there is a drain tube on each side and the AC hoses on the left side which limit your motion. You can't let it fall too far or it will stress the AC refrigerant hoses. The whole evaporator was in need of a good cleaning, so it was good that I took it down. The worst part was trying to hook all the hoses and drain hoses back up while it was supported near the roof. I seem to remember using a real ugly lift setup involving lawn chairs, lumber, and a cheap hydraulic floor jack. The drain hoses are real short, too, so that when it is high enough to plug them back in, it is too high to get your hand in there to do it!

While you got your ducts down, did you ever get that recall for the front duct holder? It is a metal bracket between the bolts that helps to distribute the weight.

Has anyone experienced leaking of water from the evaporator tray? The shop manual states that to remove the evaporator housing you must start from the front and work to the rear removing the AC ducts, then brace the lower housing with a lift and lower? I have checked the drain tube by blowing from the down end through the flapper gate valve and there is no resistance (ergo clear I guess). So the question is this lift system to lower the evaporator housing... how heavy will the evaporator be? After removing the 3 bolts at the left and right side of the lower housing (also removing the plastic bolts along the rear edge) is it going to want to drop out like an anvil or what? Thoughts comment welcome...
