Hey Joe,

No, there is no trick. Te tie rod shaft is cut at the same angle as the arm on the hub it goes into. When you say the tie rods look higher, is it because the new tie rods do not go all the way in or because the housing is simply taller than the old one? Can you post a picture?

Having an improperly fitted tie rod is a recipe for disaster.

Is there any trick to installing tie rod ends? Should they slide in, be bolted to torque and cotter pinned, and that's it? My van seems to steer fine, they just look like they're sitting higher than the old ones were.
