Hi Jeff,
About 8 miles south of Trinidad is a place called Clam Beach. There are 2 parking areas to access the beach. One is a day use only parking lot, the other which is closest to the exit/underpass is an overnight parking lot and beach campground. It can accommodate any vehicle from a 40 foot Class A to people camping out of the back of a Bug. There are no hook-ups and no water, strictly a dry camp stop. It does have pit toilets. If memory serves me, it was about $8.00 a night on a first come, first serve basis. There are camp hosts living in a small trailer in one of the corners of the parking lot. No generators after 10pm. Never heard one the whole time we were there, so we didn't run ours either.
Once you get to Trinidad, there is a Great State Park called Patrick's Point. There are over 100 campsites and a lot of them have shade. Didn't see any hook-ups, but they have water and bathrooms. It's a short walk to the beach from just about anywhere in the park. Agate Beach is a great one to take the family and look for Agates. In the morning there is seminar at the visitor's center to help identify the various rocks available for rock hounding on the various beaches in the area. Maximum length for motorhomes is supposed to be 30 feet, but they let us in with a 32. You might check to see if you need reservations @ 1-707-677-3570 or 1-800-444-7275.
If you prefer full hook-ups, try the Sounds of the Sea RV Park & Spa. It's located across the road from Patrick Point State Campground to the south about 3-4 miles. They have what they call "Super Sites", these are extra large spots with views of the ocean. 1-800-598-0600.
If you make it to Crescent City, try Shoreline RV Park. They have spaces very close to the ocean and are relatively reasonable for the area. 1-707-464-2473
These campgrounds run the gamut as far as levels of luxury.
If you have specific questions about these or other campgrounds that we have stayed at in the general area, feel free to ask (pmail).
Happy Trails,
Tim

recommend some good camping spots in Northern California (Humboldt & further
north). We'll be in a small RV (not a Westy) so the camp(s) must be RV
friendly.
Thanks in advance.
