Yes, fuse #8 provides a way to do it on earlier models but since the type of fuse holder is different, a male spade won't plug in there in place of the fuse like it does in 86+ models. Just a minor additional challenge.

One other important point to note is that fuse #8 also runs the BRAKE lights on pre 86 models. Not a big worry as long as the aux battery is installed and holding a charge but a possible safety issue to be aware of.

Running the wire under the carpet from the aux batt to the dash is no big danger as long as you put a proper fuse at the battery end.
