You might be seeing more in recent years as Hispanics have immigrated and
become more than 20% of Texas population but that is possibly because (I
hear) that Catholics often have memorials for loved ones in their homes or
wherever.
The first roadside memorials I saw in Texas back as far as 1952 were for
Harley riders that got killed. Then again  (I hear) that Harley riders make
it a point to maintain their memorials for many years.
Since Vanagon owners get buried in their Vanagons we don't have roadside
memorials.
I know after one year of ownership I was both "upside down" and "buried in
my Westy".
