There was a guy in my area that had built a conversion with a 6cyl from an audi 90 and the 5cyl bell housing which he found from a guy that had bought one of the overland 5spds when they were making everyone get the bell housing even if they did not use it. He got his for a couple hundred bucks so there are cheap one out there in peoples garages you just gotta find them. Relatively speaking $500-600 for a bell housing is not that much if you look at the KEP site they are all around that price. The guy who did the 6cyl conversion said it was very easy and the wiring was a breaze. He did it on a 2wd so there was a 2in lift in the rear deck lid. I bet if enough people wanted one KEP might make them. Any way his conversion was sweet and had a nice exhaust but he sold before I got any pics.

I'd REALLY like to see a DIY version of this kit... just the 5cyl bell housing needing minimal modification for the clutch/flywheel to work. I can fabricate motor mounts, injection, and exhaust... i can't make a BH.. and didn't have the $$ when Karl was selling his. according to VW SA dealership parts counter the SA 5cyl BH goes for approx $290 $US, add in shipping, tariffs, and the middle man's $$ $500 isn't all that bad. but not all that good.

I have a syncro with a smokey, bad exhaust pipe, bad water pipe (good heads) motor i'm planning on removing and selling as a running core. to help finance a 5cyl BH in the fall. (can hear run )

Subject: Conversion bound folks:146 HP 2.6 liter 5 cylinder Engine for Vanagons and Smog Legal* I ran across the website offering this engine for sale. Seems interesting.Prices START at $7500. for those folks that want to changethe WBX.

That is a lot of money for an engine, you could get you a built WBX, a lot of new parts and a 5 speed gearbox for less. --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.721 / Virus Database: 477 - Release Date: 7/16/2004
