After having my 85 westy parked for nearly a year, I have finally decided to address it's bad starter. After purchasing a generic rebuild at my FLAPS (first mistake?), I removed the old one and managed to get the old bushing out with some difficulty using a tap. I drove the new bushing in using a short piece of dowel but now the new starter shaft will in no way fit into the bushing. I've managed to get it started but it is so tight that I think if I were able to drive it in it wouldn't be so keen on turning. The bushing and starter shaft are both well lubricated. Is there a trick to this or is it just a case of cheap parts not fitting correctly? thanks in advance... -=e=- '85 wolfsburg weekender "Mini-mite"
