Dave, Thanks very much for the clear description and excellent points of advise. I will pick up a kit and a thermostat this weekend... or next, depending on what the wife allows :) This is exactly what I needed but were a'scared to ask cheers, rusty dave said, "prestone Flush and fill kit... should be placed in the inlet line to the heater. On my 86 Vanagon, install the tee near the starter motor on the heater inlet line. Run some NON ACID radiator flush (tee not connected to garden hose) until warm then cool off.. Start the water flow with the pressure cap off (Important). Then run the engine with the garden hose running. "
