John- I had a fuel leak on my '85that got to the point where 3/4 of a tank was as full as I could go. Good news in the end, thogh, because it turned out there was nothing wrong with the tank itself! The problem was the vent lines - they had deteriorated so badly that two of them had broken completely in half. The fix was dropping the tank, and using a vent line replacement kit, Which I got from Ken at Van-again. It was great - all the hoses, clamps, and grommets were in the kit, so all I had to do was drop, clean, and repaint the tank, before reinstalling all the new goodies. That almost (!!) made the job fun! Good luck! Seems my gas tank is leaking...I haven't diagnosed the exact spot yet...but I'm assuming it is the gas tank (yeah...I live in the Rust Belt!)After a fill up...or parked with the nose uphill I've got a leak up under there. Assuming it is the tank...what are my options? Anyone with leads on best deal for a replacement tank? Anyone with experience changing one...things to watch out for, potential hang-ups? All input appreciated... Kevin Hi Kevin, I just repaired my gas leak. I thought I was going to have to install an O-ring kit in it, but as it turned out, it was just a tube that had been pulled off of it's matching fitting. First thing I'd do is to put on some surgeons gloves & feel around the top of the tank, for tubing that is disconnected, or pulled out of an O-ring. You may have to take off the front tires to get to it. If you have to drop the tank, it's pretty straight forward & easy. Make sure you do it with an empty tank though. (much lighter) best of luck, John C...
