OK.. My 85 vanagon was ready this morning for Delaware inspection. This evening on the way to the DMV, My oil line for the pressure gauge came untied an rubbed a hot exhaust pipe and I had a major smokage. pulled over.. easy fix. So as i pulled away from the lot, I think i lost advanced timing. So i pulled to the next lot. Ironically it was a triple a and it was closed!! So i looked around and found that hose pulled off the spider. The one towards the left front of the spider. It tee's off to the fuel regulator and to the distributor i snipped the hose , reattached it and then checked thoroughly for any other loose hoses. Found nothing. So I go to start it up and as soon as I started to pull away, it got very boggy on me. I had to pull over , crawl it back to the lot and re examine my situation. I bypassed the idles stabilizer with no change it the lack of advance timing. I had to crawl home. Luckily here in Delaware rush hour ends at 7pm so instead of the embarrassment of the boggy van I was left thinking ........... So, if it is a ignition issue, should i check the hall sensor? I may be wrong but if the hall took a dump, it wouldn't work at idle either.right??? If it's not the hall, if the fuel reg vacuum is pinched, would that cause the effects of no advance (lack of fuel). A important note: This situation happens with in engine under load. At idle in neutral or Park, I can rev as much as i want. I was leaning towards a vacuum leak but the situation happens at operating temperature. Cold start/cold engine i can putt around fine. Now that i thnk of it.. If the AUX air regulator is faulty.. say it sticks until the engine heats it then pops open to far?? would that cause a gap in injection response to cause a cutting out/lack of advance effect?? PLease, all of your words of wisdom are appreciated greatly..Thomas |
