The thing about this V-6 GM engine series is that they are so numerous. They are everywhere. And that makes them dirt cheap. And it makes parts cheap. While the Subie engine is around, it has nothing like the numbers that the V-6 has. Of the latter, buy two, install one, and keep one rebuilt and at the ready on the engine stand. The minute the one in the vehicle gives problems, swap.

On an aside, I heard someplace that the engine - with all the hardware and accesories - from a Fiero will fit completely under the hatch cover of the Vanagon. You do have to build your own exhaust system. Anybody know about this??

I toy with the idea of an engine swap once in a while, but I always come full circle to the WBX, and the possibility of going the Lilley route and getting a power boost that way. Modest power increase, but enough, and along with increased engine life as well. I suspect that going that route is a good way to go and cheaper too that a complete engine exchage for a different powerplant. And it fits right from the get-go too!!
