While I've never driven a subee powered Vanagon, I've seen a couple of well done installations. The subee motor looks like it was "meant to be in a Vanagon".

People who drive them seem to love them.

The subee motor actually looks neater in the engine bay of a Vanagon than the waterboxer, especially without all those crazy cooling hoses and pipes the waterboxer uses.
