<div>That may be because at that time VW was bust taking the FUN out
of its vehicles... the Golf 1/Scirocco&nbsp; was the last fun
new-design VW (because it went so well and handled as if on
rails).</div>

<div>The last rear-engined Type 2 threatened to be fun (because it too
handled)... so VW pulled the plug by designing an unreliable botchup
of an engine, combined with a weak trans and bad electrics.</div>
