I am a very strong believer that fabrication of brake components, ESPECIALLY brake lines, is not a do-it-yourself job. Things can go wrong, and if they do, the consequences can be grave.

If I remember correctly (I have a poor memory so I could be wrong), I think that the front rubber lines on my '87 GL were only about 10 bucks each from the dealer. You could probably also get them at a good price from one of the list vendors.

Unless you are highly trained, experienced, and have all the required tools, I don't want to be anywhere around you (especially in front of you!) while you were driving if you have made your own brake lines.

Further, think of the personal liability you will be assuming if you do fabricate your own lines. Worst case, you have an accident due to a fail brake line and someone is injured or killed. Aside from the tremendous guilt you would likely carry with you for the rest of your life, the lawyers would descend upon you like vultures. Let someone else assume the risk.

Matthew, please don't take this as a flame or a slam. You are a great list member with good mechanical skills. I have a great deal of respect for you. However, when it comes to the brakes, especially the brake lines, don't mess around with doing it yourself. It just isn't worth it.

Respectfully, Bruce motorbruce motorbruce@hotmail.com
