Eric,

Well, here I am defending RVers again.

You are aware that a westie is a RV, right?

Hummm, I'd say "let him without sin cast the first stone". I've read numerous posts on this list about radios and other sound systems; both car and camper ACs and TV and internet access while on the road in a westie. I don's see how VW campers are any different than RVers.

When I used to backpack, I heard that same sort of comment about folks who car camped (using a tent). When I car camped, I heard those comments about folks who pulled small trailers or stayed in westies. Now I'm hearing them from folks who camp in westies about folks who camp in larger RVs.

I, for one, have never found "someone to help" to be more common in the city than in the boonies. I can do a bit of work myself (I was employed as an auto mechanic for a few years) and I have AAA but I'd sure hate to limit camping to folks who know how to fix cars!

I agree. What I don't agree with is the assumption that my (or your) way of appreciating it is the only way. If I don't want to be around RVs, I can go somewhere that's only accessable by a 4x4... or somewhere where I have to hike in and out.
