You can't run 100% propane in your diesel engine, but a mix of propane and diesel is possible and often done to increase output. I've done propane fumigation on the Jetta TD with good results.

The 2.0 liter 16v engine in my old passat wagon would also be a good propane engine because of it's 10.8:1 compression ratio. The MV WBX is less than ideal because of it's low CR.

I've always wanted to build a turbocharged propane engine. The high octane of propane (115 plus) should overcome detonation problems. Also, propane fuel systems are able to deliver through a wide range, eliminating the need for supplemental fueling.
