Subject: cooling system repairs
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

OK, here is the latest scoop, I have decided that the 3 inch hose that goes from the oil cooler to the metal line is way too hard to replace, I simply ran some 5/8" heater hose from the thermo housing to the oil cooler, and routed it very close to the metal hose. This seems to have worked good, I disconnected the big hose from the plastic tube in font of the right rear axle, and drained all that I could from there, then put the garden hose into the plastic line and blew hard a few times, then did the opposite direction. The water wouldn't flow through the system, I somehow think that it shouldn't. anyway I drained coolant from the lowest point that I could, but I am sure that I didn't get all the old out, (which was only 1 month old) as I only was able to fit about a gallon and a half of pre-mix in there. The old coolant was prestone orange and tap water, the new was VW and distilled water, I guess there is now a mix of the two, although it looks quite blue after circulating for a half hour in the expansion tank. I had the van nose up in the driveway, and ran it for about 30mins, burping the expansion tank as I went, and the burp screw at the top of the radiator, then I went for a quick drive and all seemed well. I see no leaks, go ahead and let me know where my problems lie now :-)

Jerry
