Your best thing to do is a compression test this will tell you the condition of the valves and or rings, it takes two times checking, first dry, then wet, after squirting some oil into the spark plug hole. Note the dry reading, say on #1, you got 80PSI reading, then after putting some oil into the cylinder and checking again it reads 115PSI, this means that you have a problem with the rings or piston, had it stayed at 80PSI this would have meant that the valves are not sealing, burnt maybe, good luck with it.
