Are the torque converter and drive plates interchangable between an 83.5 1.9L waterboxer and a 87 2.1L waterboxer, both with automatic transmissions?

A friendly listmember kindly offered to sell me one very reasonably. Gotta love the vanagon community.

I haven't dropped my transmission yet to inspect the plates, but I'm lining up the parts I suspect that I'll need.

Thanks.

Regards, Craig
