I saw 2 examples of really nice conversions at a recent VW camping event. One was an aircooled vanagon converted to turbo diesel running on straight vegetable oil. He used all the usual water cooling parts, radiator mounted at the front, etc. this was driven by the converter, named Robert I think. He is from GA, iirc. Also there was a friend driving a 70's camper converted to gas engine from a VW Fox. Radiator was mounted in place of the engine door. He said the radiator was from an Audi 4000. Electric fans inside the engine compartment draw air through the radiator in one direction or the other, I can't remember. The owner of that van loved it, despite having a few electrical gremlins along the way. He said he got 30mpg in that vehicle. Another friend is having the same guy convert a 70's bus to TD and intends to run SVO as Robert does. Edward |
