Thanks for the replies/suggestions. I'm thinking of getting/making a couple of "permanent" brackets, like those used on some Shady-Boy installations. See copy of picture at http://tomrowsell.com/awningbrackets.jpg Is there anything to worry about before drilling holes in the vanagon metal roof? It looks like leaks would be no real problem, since the bolts/holes are covered when the poptop is down. I'm hoping there's no wires etc to worry about?? I don't particularly like the thought of those common temporary brackets...when I got my van alot of paint was knocked off of the gutters in the 2 locations where those brackets were clamped on...with associated rust :)
