I'm sorry about your van! I understand what you mean about a weight being lifted from you, too... And, for everyone else reading this, Eric is right:

Not only will you at least have a chance to put out your own fire, but you may have a chance to help someone else. I and a couple of my friends have been in situations where we were able to stop someone else's engine fire before it got too far. It's a good feeling. OTOH, I had a car burn up once, and I didn't have a fire extinguisher, so I rode my bike for a couple of years afterward.
