P.s. When I refer to the photos in the my shop manual, I cannot see the speed sensor so it is very likely the sensor is only there if you have cruise.

It should be very easy to check is the sensor is reed or hall effect: 1) unplug the two-wire harness that connects to the sensor. 2) monitor the sensor with a DMM set to measure resistance. 3) drive down the road very slowly and count the closures of the switch. If you see no closure, it must be hall effect.

I have the cruise in my 89. In my recent to find a speed sensor to use with my GPS I found the cruise sensor. It is right at the speedo cable that attached to the instrument cluster. You can see it at plain sight as soon as you remove the plastic cover on the dash. I didn't check to see if it is reed swtich or hall effect. Give the era I suspect it is likely reed also for the reason of cost.

I haven't hook up the GPS yet other wise I can tell you the pulses per rev.

Can someone tell me what years the factory cruise control was offered?

Is the speed sensor in the speedometer just a reed switch that closes to ground 4 times per revolution? Or is it something fancier? (Hall effect?)
