Subject: My Hi-Performance WBX Trip Update

I'll have a more detailed report when I"m back from my trip. But, right now I'm in Wilmington NC. I've driven over 4k miles with my new 2.3 stroker WBX with 1.25 rockers from Unique Imports in Mission Viejo CA. The motor has run very, very well. I've gone up the CA coast to Oregon, across to Boise and SLC thru to Philly, Eastern Long Island and on southward. Pound Puppy, my heavily loaded Adventurewagen topped Westfalia with bullbumpers held 50 MPH going up Parley's Pass in 3rd gear in Salt Lake City -- a pass that my previous poptop stock syncro westy would only pull at 35 mph in second gear empty -- and it kicked ass through the steep, windy sections of the 101 with the AC on. I never dropped below 50 on ANY strettch of 1-84. The motor -- It has a slight lifter tick that comes and goes (I'll have it warranty checked when I get home) and a tiny, tiny main seal leak (ditto). I had my cat converter holllowed out in Oregon because the interior of it had fallen apart and was getting mild vanagon syndrome from Oregon to SLC. In SLC I put on a new Magnaflow cat to match my Magnaflow muffler and a new O2 sensor and --no more VGon syndrome. In the last 2k miles, it's consumed 1/3 quart of 20-w50 at around 18 to 20 MPG on ONLY hi-octane gas. Runs very happily at 70-75 MPH with AC on the interstate and as its gotten more broken in, it seems to have even more power. It actually accelerates off the line if I want it to. In short, I'm STOKED. Should it hold together, its the best $3200 (TURNKEY INSTALLATION) I've ever spent and has turned Pound Puppy into a true workhorse. DIXON
