Subject:      Speedometer cable...nub & clip but no cable....fixable?

Hello All:

Many thanks for the replies regarding my Speedometer
not working. I looked at the Drivers side hub and
found the clip is there...attached to a "nub"...but
the cable must have broken off and gone inside the
hub.  Is there a way to fix the end of the cable so I
can re-attach a cotter pin to hold it???  I'd run this
by my mechanic but he is out of town on vacation for
awhile.
