Sounds like you need to take a inspection of the check valve. Then inspect all vacume lines front to back. Then consider it might be a bad vacume booster (Under the instrument cluster). I have a used booster for 25$ + freight.

Does anyone know if the Vanagon has a brake booster? I have an '82 and it became harder and harder to stop about 2 years ago. Now I have to push very hard to stop the van whereas before it was like I had power brakes. The brakes are working, however. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Aaron
