Typically, the Vanagon's trailer hitches are rated at 150 pounds max tongue weight and 1500 pounds (unbraked) trailer/cargo weight. Some of the dokas or single cabs seem to have a slightly higher towing capacity, but that should give you a benchmark to go by. Haven't seen a trailer hitch for a Vanagon with a higher tongue weight than 150 pounds.
