Thanks to everyone on the list for helping me to learn more about vanagon repair. I've since learned that there are specialized transmission jacks that are too expensive for me and also adapters for standard garage jacks. I've called a few places (Kragen and NAPA) in Mountain View and haven't been able to find a place locally that actually sells the transmission jack adapters. I can try a few more places, but I'm now thinking of drilling and tapping my jack pad to accept bolts. I have a tap set that I bought from Harbor Freight, so it might be something I could do tonight. I got this idea from a Google search that showed a guy doing this on the page below: http://www.ucalgary.ca/~csimpson/Tech/TranJack.html I have a couple of concerns here. I'm not sure if I would weaken the jack pad. Also, the last time I tried to drill through a steel bumper, I wasn't able to. I just have a cheap Craftsman power drill. So, drilling through 1/4" steel might be too ambitious. Any thoughts on this plan? If that doesn't work, I may try to build a box for the jack pad. Regards, Craig |
