Hello John, I drive (occasionally) an 82 Vanagon, also with non-swivel captain's chairs. For several years, 1999-2003, I suffered discomfort from a bone tumor just below my right hip joint. At the time I didn't know what the problem was but I was unable to sit comfortably in restaurant booths, many different styles of chairs, and my wife's 99 Golf. I *was* able to comfortably drive my Vanagon, which probably goes a long way towards explaining why I waited three years to have the offending hunk of bone chiselled off! That's my story. Peace, Jesse
