As usual, one of the listees has screwed it up for the rest, and you
haven't gotten any answer that you can use. If the hole is through the
top, there are sealers/epoxys that you can buy to plug it up which should
be fine. Dropping the tank is not too difficult. Just leaving the screw in
place is a bad idea since vibration will move the tank, while the screw is
secured to the frame, which will stretch the hole and make it worse. Doing
it right usually means only doing it once :)

If the hole is on the side, I would at consult a pro shop and listen to
what they know. You will get more useful advice from them, than you will
from a sad old listee who only knows how to incite, and put down others.

Try using filters. It keeps the useless stuff to a minimum since most of
it comes from the same source every time anyway.
