Subject: Re: Alternator bracket (S), what a flaw!!!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

The alternator bracket is poorly designed and executed in the Vanagon. I fabricated braces which attach to the bottom bolt on the alternator and the bolt for the top bracket. The other ends of these braces are attached to bolts on the engine case and help to dampen the vibrations which are the cause of the alternator bracket failure. A couple of strips of 1/4" inch steel stock 3/4" inch wide, a vice to hold the strips for bending and a drill to make mounting holes are all thats necessary to make such brackets.
