Subject: Westy in Accident

Volks,

In a freak accident with an overturning 6 wheel truck my 84 Westy got struck a downward glancing blow just behind the rearmost side window on the driver's side. It mashed the rearmost side panel about six inches and popped the back hatch open, destroyed the rear bumper and did some minor damage to the passenger side rearmost side panel. It looks like I'm going to have to do the repair myself because the insurance company will try to total the vehicle.

Has anyone tried to replace this body panel? Would it be better to buy this panel from a vendor or to cut it from a salvage vehicle? Any helpful advice on how to get my favorite vehicle fixed would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

John Houser, Jr. Perry, Ga 84 Westy
