Subject: Car Talk advice: Sell Vanagon
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Looks like there might be an 84 Vanagon for sale in the Seattle area. A woman called into Car Talk today in love with her 84 Vanagon and it's ability to facilitate cross-country trips, but... she wanted some modern luxeries. She pined for things like a horn and some other ammenities right up to air bags.

The Car Talk guys eventually recommended she sell the Vanagon and go for a Subaru Forester. After some discussion they all agreed she'd keep the Vanagon since the husband loved it and it was "worthless"anyway so wouldn't bring in any money. The husband it seemed like to tinker with the Vanagon.

It was all good natured funning, needless to say, but we all know the Car Talk brothers aren't too keen on the Vanagon. The woman did mention that Vanagons were pretty popular in the NW and might not be a total loss if it were sold.

They followed the call with a little folk song about a Vanagon where the chorus went something like:

We used to own a Yellow Vanagon When it died we bought ourselves a Caravan (this line was something about the Caravan dying, maybe?) We're gonna buy another van again And it's gonna be a Vanagon again.

I didn't get the name of the band.
