If this is the case, then buy a Lonely Planet USA and read it cover to cover with a USA map in front of you and mark the places that whet your interest, this way your trip will map out itself. (there are regional USA Lonely Planet books too). This is the way we plan our 'foreign' trips and it works every time. M
