Subject: Replacing Brake Rotors, calipers, bearings.

'84 passenger vanagon.

What is the torque for the front wheel bearing nut?

This nut apparently gets dented into position after torquing. Can someone explain the proper procedure for installing the rotor/bearings? (Torque, then dent, must a new nut be used each time).

I drive a '72 bus, and it has a clamp that tightens to lock into position, instead of this dent-nut thing. The bearings are similar.

I am working on my dad's '84 vanagon passenger van.

I am replacing, among other items, the front brakes. The calipers that I got from one of our favorite vendors has the connector for the brake line in a different location. I am going to have to replace the steel brake lines, I assume that this is the only change that I will face, that and there is only one location to bleed the brakes, instead of 2. The one coming off has the Audi circles on it, the one going on was in an ATE box. If I am facing insurmountable problems here, please let me know.

Many Thanks,

Bob H.
