If you are willing to take it outside the 9 bay area counties, a shop will
not be burdened with some of the quite ridiculous "rules" for handling
paints today, thanks to our out of control air quality "I need to keep my
job" idiots here in California. They can also shoot some of the better
paints.
Just a thought, you may get more for your money.
Also, I have now owned 3 blue vanagons. My 85 sunroof was a dark navy blue,
my 87 syncro is the dove blue and my 89 wolfy is a royal blue.
All are HOT and bake in the sun compared to WONDERFUL WHITE.
It seems most folks have no clue how hot dark colors are in the sun.
I have installed a pop top on my syncro and the first thing I did is paint
the top brilliant white.
I am looking at painting in white graphics on the sides as well
For the wolfy I am going to paint the roof silver and do a silver graphic on
the sides to cool it down
Proper window shading is also critical, you cant use the dark tint it heats
up too because its a "dark" color.
The guy I bought my house from has a wife who was a "design" major and they
decided the house would look more "designer" with a black roof.
Yeah, its "designer" but its so bleeping hot compared to a light color comp
roof its warping my rafters. .
Next time you walk through a parking lot on a hot day with the sun shining
put your hand on a dark colored car, you wont be able to leave it there for
more that a second before it burns you. then put your hand on a light
colored car or white. its air temperature, you can leave your hand there all
day.
The difference is HUGE like 100s of degrees!
I eventually painted my 85 sunroof white in spite of the fact that the
inside was still blue, I didn't care it was toooooooo damn hot.
