As it is generally illegal in most jurisdictions to carry a 'weapon' in yer car, we used to call something like that in a vehicle a 'persuader'. As in, to 'persuade' a dangerous person to leave you alone, or to 'persuade' them to fall down on the ground unconscious if they won't; also good for 'persuading' inanimate objects as per Stan. If it looks like something that belongs in the car, you can usually justify having it if you needed to use it.
