Subject: rear seat/bed hinge repair?

we've a similar problem to Jeff Couture ("Re: WTB: Folding Rear Bench/Bed Frame (hardware under the seat") though our hardware isn't bent:

At the seat/bed hinge there's a small (1" x 2") L-shaped piece with a hole in each end and in the angle, attached to a spring. It's somehow got broken. Is it replaceable or repairable? Since it broke and dropped off I can't tell how it fits to the mechanism.

Since the L-piece broke, the seat still keeps upright but is wobbly. How vital is the broken piece? Now that it's missing is the whole seat going to go SPROING in the middle of the night?

Thanks! Alan
