A friend of mine had constant trouble with his electrical system and his method was this: pull a fuse, connect the leads of an ammeter in place of the fuse, see if there was any significant draw on that circuit. Easier than trying to connect a meter in-line on the main battery cable. Most ammeters have a 10A fuse, though, so make sure none of the higher-current equipment (headlight, fridge, etc.) is turned on.
