Ed, From what you said, I think you took the wrong conclusion... If the temp gauge went right up when you grounded the connector, the connector was working fine. Yup, I grounded the lead, temp gauge went right to the top. I snipped off the old connector and crimped on a ew one. I'll see if this works for now.

Jonathon is right, just ground the wire and the gauge will go all the way up. Good possibility the wire is broken off. If you need a new sensor, VolksCafe has them for $6, p/n 049-919-501. -Hans 87 syncro
