Subject: Is this a jack part?

The PO for this 84 Westy didn't lose any of the supplied accessories and tools. There is one item that I can't quite figure out though. Found it under the rear mattress.

I could use some help identifying it. It may not actually be a VW-supplied part.

It is a steel rod/tube, about 22'' long. One end is solid bar stock, about 5/8'' diameter, with knurling on 4'' of its length. This bar is inserted -- permanently, I think -- into a steel tube, with an outside diameter of about 7/8''. There's a funny little key cutaway in the tube where the rod is inserted. The other end of the tube has a notch cut in it.

Looks functional, like it means business.
