Subject: Fw: [subaruvanagon] Good advice regarding plastic vw fuel fitting
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Folks, Just an FYI from a message on the Suby board about the plastic fuel fitting. It seems the suby guys are also VERY suspect of this plastic fitting being one of the main causes of engine fires in the vanagon. I had an 87 that developed a fuel leak and it was the line connection on the transmission side of the plastic fuel fitting, it just decided to start leaking one day. Fortunately I was only moving it around in my yard and saw the gas trail on the driveway and was not off to the freeway.

Sounds like completely eliminating this fitting and or replacing with brass may be a good move. Our vehicles are getting up there in age where the plastic stuff is no longer holding together.

BEWARE!!!

Save the vanagons!

Doug
