#1 Search the archives, it is all in there (But I see you are being sent a ZIP file with all that in there). I believe that it's not in Bently, just the exploded view.

2# You MAY! be able to do what you want if you remove the Glove Box, the ashtray, the radio, and the plastic kickplate that is just in front of the shifter knob (easy if you have a stick shift) it just slides straight back on my 91.

With all of this out of the way you may be able to see enough to wiggle the end of the control wire out of the defroster lever.

I had my dash out just last weekend and I too had a lever that was not working and it ended up to be a bent wire. It's OK now.

If you end up taking the dash out (not a hard job, but it takes a while), be sure to LABLE EVERYTHING and to lube all of the heater controls and the wiper control arms too. Also consider replacing the heater blower motor and heater core while you're in there - IF you take the dash out. M
