Dave,

Yes, that is the fill plug. As another post mentions, pull the fill plug before draining the transmission so that you don't end up with an empty gearbox and no way to fill it. If you don't want to use the bolt and nut method to make a tool you can purchase a socket specifically made for it through a tool vendor such as Snap-on, etc, for about $10.00.
