I doubt the oil pump gasket is leaking.  More than likely it is your oil cooler, the crank pulley seal, or a clogged oil breather hose that is dumping oil on the engine.  All three of these can be checked and repaired with the engine in the car.

getting to the engine) just to replace a couple of gaskets. Has anyone one
done this with the engine in place? And could my leak be something I'm
